My name is Patrick Towns. I am a 1995 graduate of Alabama State University in Montgomery, AL. I became inspired to start running and living a healthy life style about 5 years ago. At that time, I wasn't eating right, nor was I exercising. It had gotten to the point where I had gained so much weight, it was a struggle just to walk up a flight of stairs. I asked God to give me the discipline to start eating right and exercising. I started to take it one day at a time. I stopped eating red meat and pork. I don't drink sodas. I started eating turkey and natural chicken. I added in more fruits and some vegetables. But I also started exercising. I started out walking about 6 days a week for a few months. After a while, I added in a little running. Before long, I was running 6 days a week.
I Have Lost 50 Pounds!
Through this process, I made a whole lot of new friends. Before I knew it, I had lost about 50 pounds. My endurance and stamina had gotten to the point where I was running 6 to 8 miles a day. I started to do things I thought I could never do. I ran my first 5K Run about a year ago, which is a 3 mile run. It was the Hobson City 5K Run. I also ran the Honda 5K Run about a year ago. And then came the big one. On February 12, 2012, some friends from WJR Club and I ran the Mercedes Half Marathon (13.1 miles). On May 19, 2012, my friends and I ran the Anniston Lions Run For Sight which was a 5K Run. We are now training for the Wood Stock 5K Run on August 4, 2012.
